U Shaped Screw Conveyor

A U-trough screw conveyor is a continuous machine used for moving bulk materials. Its main parts are a U-shaped trough, screw shaft and blades, drive unit, inlet and outlet ports, sealing covers, plus a bearing support system.

The motor drives the screw shaft to rotate, the blades then push the material forward. The material won't spin along with the blades-this is because of its own weight and the friction against the trough wall. So it moves axially along the trough bottom, enabling stable conveying either horizontally or at an incline that's no more than 20 degrees.

Advantages

Compact structure, doesn't take up much space

Sealing is pretty good, dust emission is low so it's friendly to the environment

Installation and maintenance are not hard to do

Can load and unload materials at intermediate points

Cost is moderate

Disadvantages

Not fit for long-distance conveying tasks

Easy to get clogged when handling materials with high moisture, high viscosity, or those that clump together easily

Will cause a bit of material breakage and abrasion

Power consumption is relatively higher compared with belt conveyors

Applicable Materials and Industries

Suitable for dry powdery, granular, and lumpy materials (like cement, fly ash, grain, mineral powder). Not suitable for materials that are easy to perish, highly viscous, strongly caking, and high-moisture.

Application areas: grain, chemical, building materials, metallurgy, mining, power, environmental protection and so on.

Common Parameters

Ambient temperature: -20~40℃

Material temperature: Generally it should be ≤80℃

Conveying angle: Recommended ≤15° (the larger the angle is, the lower the conveying capacity will be)

Material options: Ordinary carbon steel (it's wear-resistant), 304/316 stainless steel (for food/pharmaceutical/chemical cleanroom requirements)
